Benefits

Optimised Engineered Lumber (OEL™) has an impressive set of features and benefits that are summarised below. Additionally, click on the icon above that best represents you. This will help you to better understand how those benefits will deliver value.

Sustainable

Wood is a significantly more sustainable building product than other materials like steel and concrete. Also OEL™ is produced from FSC forests and from logs that would ordinarily be waste or sent overseas for processing. Finally the OEL™ plant has a comparatively low energy footprint and is able to generate all of it’s energy needs (including electricity) from the sawdust produced during production.

High Durability Attributes

OEL™ is bonded with one of the most durable heat curing resins available, which can make it suitable for harsh environments. OEL™ is also chemically treated where required and significantly outperforms the treatment retention and penetration requirements.

Strong

OEL™ is predominately available in a GL12 grade which is nearly 50% stronger than traditional SG8 or LVL8 grades. See the product specification pages for details around these strength characteristics and the associated application.

Consistent and Precise Strength Characteristics

Each of the many small timber components that makes up the final OEL™ product is precisely tested and graded resulting in consistent and precise strength characteristics within each piece of OEL™. Also each final piece of OEL™ is fully tested and individually identified with its own test result giving assurance the product is as strong as we say it is.

Dimensionally Stable

OEL™ is engineered to remain straight and true despite changes in conditions.

Precise Sizing and Gauging

OEL™ is precisely sized meaning customers can rely on straight and correctly sized lengths of timber.

Light Weight

OEL™ is lighter than other engineered wood products and often solid lumber.

Low Water Retention

If OEL™ gets wet it is comparatively slow to gain water content and yet also will dry faster than other engineered wood products such as LVL.

Design and Architecture

OEL™ is Sustainable - Design with a sustainable product that is produced with a sustainable manufacturing process to reduce negative impacts on our environment.

OEL™ is Light -  Wood construction is far lighter than steel and concrete alternatives simplifying foundation design and construction; saving significant time and money.

OEL™ is Strong -  Comparitively less wood can be used in wooden structures; ability use a smaller lintel or joist; maintain the optimal framing stud spacing in higher stud, higher wind zone or multi story application; smaller sized components used to make up panel designs.

OEL™ has Consistent and Precise Strength Characteristics - Design can be engineered to specific strength characteristics rather than current timber grading allowances; allows substitution for other building materials such and steel and concrete.

Pre Fabrication

OEL™ is Strong - Lighter panels for same application; panels spanning longer distances; lighter frames and trusses; less labour requirement in the factory meaning more capacity for other work; less fixtures required further reducing costs.

OEL™ is Dimensionally Stable - High suitability for prefabrication manufacturing in panel or traditional pre-nail frames and trusses as it allows for high automation and less rework.

OEL™ is Light Weight - Easier to handle in the prefabrication plant.

OEL™ has Precise Sizing and Gauging - High suitability for prefabrication manufacturing in panel or traditional pre -nail frames and trusses as allows for high automation and less rework.

Building Site

OEL™ is Strong - Comparatively lighter structures with less wood meaning savings in labour and fixture costs.

OEL™ is Consistent and Precise Strength Characteristics - Allows for lighter structures in mid/high rise structures reducing ground and construction time and costs.

OEL™ is Dimensionally Stable - Less waste and rework on the building site saving significant time and money.

OEL™ has Low Water Retention - Less costs incurred on site drying framing and trusses; less impact from swelling of timber; saving time and money.

OEL™ is Light Weight - Easier to stand-up frames and install trusses or prefabricated panels; easier to handle loose pieces on site; saving time and money.

OEL™ has Precise Sizing and Gauging - Less waste and rework on the building site saving significant time and money.
